Contest
Rules
The Texas Swing Riot 2001 dance contest is
a Jack-and-Jill competition. Participants must register for the
Riot workshops in order to enter the competition. The cost for registration
is $10 per person.
PRIZES
First
Place Lead and Follow - $150 each.
Second Place Lead and Follow - $125 each.
Third Place Lead and Follow - $100 each.
Fourth Place Lead and Follow - $ 50 each.

MEETING.
Friday. February 23, 2001. At 9 pm in the Art Gallery of the Texas
Federation BallRoom.
PRELIM ROUNDS
Friday. February 23, 2001. During the second set break of the dance
(approximately 11:15 pm) at the Fed Ballroom. Finalists will be
announced during the second set break.
THE
CONTEST FINALS
Saturday. February 24, 2001. During the second set break of the
dance (approximately 11:15 pm) at the Fed BallRoom.
GENERAL
CONTEST RULES
1. You must register for the Riot workshops in order to enter the
contest.
2.
Each participant must pay $10 to enter the contest.
3.
There will be spots for fifteen leads and fifteen follows in the
Jack-&-Jill Contest. The 30 spots will be filled on a first-come-first-served
basis.
4.
There will be three preliminary heats with five leads and follows
in each heat.
5.
There will be four rotations of partners per heat in prelims, with
each rotation receiving a selected section of a different song (1
1/2 - 2 minutes). Song selections will be made by Four on the Floor
and will vary in tempos from 120 bpm to 190 bpm.
6.
The number of contestants advancing to the finals will be determined
after prelims.
7.
There will be three rotations in each finals heat, with each rotation
receiving a selected section of a different song (1 1/2 - 2 minutes).

8.
The dancers may use any dance steps, except for aerials.
9.
Props are allowed. Just be careful.
10.
Participants will be graded by the judges on their individual lead
and follow skills in both the preliminary and final rounds. The
scoring categories will include, but are not limited to: synchronization
- how well the leads and follows dance with each other and with
the music, creativity, and technical skill. In case of a tie, the
synchronization category will be used to break the tie.
